Je suis désolé de toujours laisser ce blog à l'abandon mais je travaille beaucoup sur de choses que je ne peux pas encore montrer.
Mais j'ai tout de même trouvé un peu de temps pour faire cette petite lino gravure pour l'exposition collective "L'étrange Noël de Mr. Jack " à la galerie Arludik, à partir du 22 février prochain. J'ai l'habitude d'imprimer sur presse et j'ai donc un peu galérer pour le faire à la main avec des encres à l'eau mais après quelques ratés et beaucoup de persévérance, je suis finalement arrivé à quelque chose de pas trop mal. Et ça m'a aussi prouvé que c'était possible.

I'm sorry I've been neglecting this blog so much lately, but I'm working a lot on things I can't show yet and it doesn't let me a lot of spare time to do other things.
But here is a little something I nonetheless managed to squeeze in...
This is a linocut "homemade" print I did for the upcoming collective hommage show "The Nightmare before Christmas " at Arludik gallery in Paris, that will start from February the 22nd.
I'm usually used to print with proper press so I struggled a bit doing it by hand with water-based ink. But after a few failed attempts and perseverance, I finally got to something. Hope you'll like it.

The final Art auction is coming on October 17th in Brussels and you can find all the details about it on the brand new SketchTravel website.
One of the important things SketchTravel has done, thanks to Gérald and Dice, was to create a diverse and amazing community of artists from around the world, but even more importantly the project’s goal is to build one library ($20k) and sponsor one local children’s book publishing ($15k) in developing countries.
Indeed, all the benefits will go to Room to Read, an international non-profit dedicated to increase child literacy in such parts of the world.
It would be great if you could support in anyway you can this wonderful project. There are different ways to give a hand:

La vente aux enchères du Sketchtravel aura lieue chez Pierre Bergé & Associés le 17 Octobre, le carnet original étant estimé à 30 000 euros. L'argent sera reversé à l'association Room to read.
La version livre (aux éditions du chêne) est prévue dans la foulée.Vous pouvez le pré-commander sur amazon en cliquant ici. Une version collector sera aussi éditée, qui reproduira le coffret en bois réalisé par Daniel Lopez Munoz de Pixar. Et elle est disponible ici.
Pour l'occasion, je peux vous montrer ma contribution réalisée il y a deux ans presque jour pour jour.

Véro et moi travaillant au même moment et au même endroit, nous avons voulu en tirer parti et faire quelque chose qui ne pouvait être fait qu'en travaillant ensemble. Nous voulions aussi user pleinement du concept collaboratif du carnet. Nous avons donc découpé un morceau de notre page en commun, pour laisser un trou qui lierait nos deux travaux. Un morceau de chaque illus étant donc visible dans celle de l'autre et un dialogue étant possible. Si c'est pas très clair, quelques images:

Véro and I were able to contribute at the same time and at the same place, so we decided to somehow do something that would reflect this, that could be done only if we were working together. We also wanted to literally use the collaborative concept of the sketchbook. So, we cutted out a piece of our middle page, to leave a hole that would link our two pieces. So you can see a bit of each other's piece in each one, and the sketchbook travels through it. It doesn't seem really clear, so here are some pictures:

Une vieillerie de 2004 à l'école, en fouillant dans mes fichiers: trois plans (qui ne se suivent pas) de ce qui devait être un mini-film jamais terminé. Ça parlait d'un club de mamies, d'amour et de mécanique.
Fait entièrement sur flash pour apprendre le logiciel. J'avais essayé d'utiliser les images bitmap et la technique du papier découpé en plus du keyframe normal. J'ai une petite tendresse pour ces plans, donc je les ressort. J'avais posté des dessins du projet ici il y a longtemps.

Cleaning my files, I found an old stuff from school, back in 2004: three shots (they don't follow each other) from what was supposed to be a mini film never finished. It was about a grandmother's club, love and mechanics.
It was all done on flash only to learn the software. I wanted to try it with bitmaps, paper cut style animation, as well as keyframe. I still kind of like it so I take it out the drawer. I posted some concept art here ages ago.

Charlie Bean's COSMO for CNEurope

Back in early 2009, I've helped the talented Charlie Bean on his project: "COSMO". This was an interesting and very funny one, which was developped as twenty-two minutes episodes, telling one big story throughout, which is pretty rare now in animated TV shows. The series follows the journey through space of a regular and unadapted family...in charge of the secret of the universe. Despite the qualities of it, the project was shelved.

We chose to do the opening sequence of the full animatic, as a fully fleshed out test to show how the series could look like. Only the main character was made in 3D for time and budget reasons.
As the first 3D project of the studio, I was responsible to hire a small team to complement my skills. I supervised the sequence, animated it, did most of the compositing and kept an eye on the schedule. This was a rich experience and challenge for me to find the right people and forsee their potential in the areas I had limited skills in.
It took around ten weeks to complete the sequence, including four weeks of animation.
I'd like to thank Charlie who gave me such opportunity and had faith in me, the talented John Martin who developed and managed the technical CG side, and all the talented people involved (Go on vimeo for full credits). We had good time doing it.

I've tried some environmental pictures. Charlie wanted to get a miniature feel to the space, as if it was small scale and made out of objects. This was later abandonned.

After trying a lot of different things, we finally decided the characters were better as Charlie was drawing them, they felt right and legitimate with his own style, we then decided to go that route.

La première présente mes exercices d'anim 3D de 3e année aux gobelins en 2006. (La video est déformée sur vimeo, j'essaierai de régler le problème.)

So, here is a selection of the development art (2008/2009) from Verne for you to enjoy.
Our brief was to create something short, funny and that could show potential for being developed further towards a TV series. It was produced in 3 months with a small budget and a small team.

I also would like to thank all the great people who worked with me on the short. The part I enjoyed the most as a first time director was to keep the team happy and motivated on the project, despite the pressure. I was then rewarded with amazing involvement, work and great talent.
So, a big thank you to Ale and Alf who animated those characters with me, Celine who work on the 3D bit and the compositing, Stephane for most of the compositing as well, Jen for producing it, and my old friend Sylvain who wrote the music, played by his amazing band OMP from Berlin.

Of course the short was made with the idea to make a TV series, so the designs were thought in that way, to make it possible to do in a TV show's budget/schedule. As I said in the previous post, the project is being considered as a one-shot long form, which means the designs will be reviewed accordingly.

At last the shorts that we made at the Cartoon Network Development Studio in 2009 have been put online! They're on their own Youtube channel dedicated to the Development Studio.

Here's my short, Verne on Vacation. It's currently being considered as a TV feature, since it didn't correspond to the channel grid for a series, which I'm entirely fine with!
It was completed in 3 months, from end of July to October 2009. It won the Pulcinella award for best TV pilot in 2010.
I'll post more artworks soon and I can finally give a big shout out to the brilliant crew who worked on it.

MAKING-OF

-On m'a demandé d'expliquer le processus pour faire une image, je le fais donc pour ce projet. Tout est digital, fait à la Cintiq sur Photoshop, principalement pour une raison de temps. J'avais a peu près un mois pour faire une trentaine d'images et travailler à l'ordi est plus rapide pour moi.

-I was asked to explain my process of doing an illustration, so I'll do it with that project. Everything was made digitally with a Cintiq in Photoshop, mainly for a time reason. I had around a month to do thirty or so illustrations and working digitally is faster.

1. Je fais un rough tout pourri pour mettre dans la maquette et se mettre d'accord avec l'éditeur. C'est vraiment pour donner une idée de l'image et de la compo. Ça sera souvent la seule étape qu'il verra avant l'image finale donc c'est le moment de faire des commentaires. Ici, le petit garçon devant être plus inquiet et en action, au lieu de simplement se réveiller. Je traite toutes les images comme ça avant de continuer.

1. I first do a really crap rough to go in the page layout and to be ok with the publisher. The goal is to give the idea of the picture and a rough composition. It will usually be the only thing he will see until the final picture, so it's the time for comments. Here, the boy had to look worried and be more in action, instread of just waking up. I do a pass at all the pictures like this before anything else.

2. Je précise le rough avec un autre.

2. I precise the rough with an other one.

3. Je clean le dessin. Je montre parfois cette étape à l'éditeur pour s'assurer que ça part dans la bonne direction et surtout pour lui prouver que je bosse toujours depuis les roughs il y a 10 jours!

3. Line clean up. I sometimes show this step to the publisher to make sure it's going to the right direction, and show him that I'm still working since the rough step, 10 days ago!

4. Couleur! (Je garde la ligne visible pour cette étape)

4.Color! (I keep the line visible for that step)

5. L'image finale. Certaines lignes du dessin sont effacée, certaines colorées. Je rajoute quelques effets par dessus le tout.

5. Final picture. Some drawing lines are erased, others are colored. Then I add some effects on top of everything.

Et voilà!

Spirou D&D!

Un petit boulot rapide réalisé l'année dernière pour la gazette de Spirou, en tandem avec mon collègue, voisin et surtout copain Chris Garbutt sur le thème de la fantasy. Il a réalisé la double page centrale et je me suis occupé de la vague frise violassée autour.

A quick job I did last year for Spirou, with my coworker, neighbour and pal Chris Garbutt. The theme was fantasy, that's why there's a strong D&D feel to it. He did the centre spread and I did the purple crap around it. He did a nice step by step of it on his blog. Go check it people.

(Je préfère cette couleur quand même. I prefer this color.)

Le "Moi je lis" de février illustré par votre serviteur est en kiosque aujourd'hui.
J'ai eu environ un mois pour le faire et c'était quand même pas mal de boulot au final, mais je me suis bien amusé. Il y en a quelques unes de plus dans le magazine mais je les aime moins.

The kids magazine I illustrated is in French stores today and for february only. I had around a month to do it, which was tighter than I thought but it was a lot of fun. There are some more in the magazine but I didn't like them all.

J'ai passé mon mois de Novembre à illustrer un récit pour le magazine "Moi je lis" chez Milan presse. Pour les enfants donc. Environ 35 illus plus la couv. Il sortira en kiosque en Février 2011 et j'en mettrai plus à ce moment là.

I've spent last November working on a big illustrated story for a nice french magazine for kids, called "Moi je lis". About 35 illustrations plus cover. It'll be out in February 2011 and I'll show more then.

A quick job for kids on a french publisher's website. Children can take the stickers on the left and place them over the background on the right. Here, it's only the picture of course.

Mon absence s'explique par beaucoup (c'est peu dire) de travail de Janvier à Août à développer mon projet, donc pas de temps pour autre chose...Mais je reprends les chose en main, par forcément dans la chronologie mais c'est ça ou rien. Greetings dear readers! (if there are still people reading this dusty blog...) I'm back on the blog. I was so silent because of a huge amount of work on my project from January to August, so no time for anything else. But here I am to post again, not in a chronogical order but it's better than nothing. I missed you!

Voici une petite peinture réalisée pour le projet communautaire Art blocks for Ghana, pour aider les enfants du Ghana à trouver une maison. Chaque artiste participant recevant un même panneau de bois pour réaliser leur vision du thème "Home".
Il y aura une expo et une vente aux enchères en Mars 2011. L'occasion d'acquérir de chouettes oeuvres en faisant une bonne action.

Here is a small piece I've done for the project Art blocks for Ghana, a charity to help children in Ghana to get a home. Each artist got the same wood panel to illustrate the them "Home".
There will be an exhibition and auction in March 2011.

Le mini-pilote de mon projet vient de recevoir le prix Pulcinella du festival "Cartoons on the bay" de Rome, dans la catégorie meilleur pilote de série. C'était assez inattendu et plutôt bon signe car le festival est spécialisé dans le contenu pour la télé (d'où la catégorie spécifique pour les pilotes). Le projet est toujours en développement, le concept évolue et je réalise en ce moment un second pilote de 11 minutes cette fois. Et c'est une toute autre paire de manches!

The mini-pilot of my TV series project for Cartoon Network just won the Pulcinella award at the "Cartoons on the bay" festival in Rome, in best TV pilot category. And that was quite unexpected and a good news since the festival is more TV content oriented (with the specific pilot category). The project is still in further development, the concept evolves and I'm boarding an 11 minutes pilot now. And this is a whole new challenge for me!

Le thème était "correspondance".

Premier jour de la nouvelle année (je vous la souhaite bien bonne), je me décide à parler de ce qui va m'occuper une bonne partie de 2010.
Je peux rarement montrer ce que je fais au quotidien, donc pas toujours grand chose pour nourir ce blog. Le developpement veut souvent dire travailler dur sur des projets que personnes ne verra jamais au bout du compte, pas très gratifiant donc...du moins sur le court terme.
Profitez-en donc car je peux vous donner un petit machin à machouiller.
J'en avais déjà parlé, j'ai récemment réalisé un mini pilote pour Cartoon Network autour du projet que je développe. Ca a été intense et des gens bien m'ont apporté leur talent (Qu'ils en soient remerciés à jamais).
Mon projet a donc récemment été choisi pour aller plus loin, en développement plus poussé pour voir ce qu'il a dans le ventre. Donc vers fin juillet et pour cinq mois, je vais revoir les designs, le concept et réaliser un épisode de onze minutes en animatique. Qui sait ce qui se passera ensuite, ce qu'il en adviendra, ou même si j'aurai envie de vendre mon âme au diable de la boîte à images. Enfin ça c'est une autre histoire...
En attendant l'opportunité est là et je sais combien il est rare de se voir donner les moyens de faire ce qu'on veut (ou presque) et l'expérience acquise est bien réelle.
Donc voilà deux petites images pour vous donner envie. Attention, ce n'est PAS les designs finaux, justes des recherches que j'ai eu envie de partager (ce qui a été bizarrement dur).
Le court sera diffusé je sais pas quand ou comment mais il le sera...je l'espère. Je pourrai alors en montrer plus. A suivre.

First day of the new year(may it be happy for you all), I've decided to talk about what will keep me busy for a good part of 2010.Showing things I do for work is quite rare, which explains a lack of update over here...Development usually means working hard on things that people will never see.
So behold! since I can give you a little thing to bite.
As I already mentionned, I recently created and directed a mini pilot around the project I'm developing for Cartoon Network. It's been quite intense and I've been helped by great people(Forever Thank you to them).
It's been recently selected to go forward into further development, so from mid-January and for five month, I'll be developing it further, revising the concept, the designs and making an eleven-minutes episode animatic. Who knows what will happen then...how it will evolve, what I want to do with it...or if I'll want to sell my soul to the devil of the TV...
But in the meantime, it's an exciting opportunity, and I know how rare it is to be given the means to work on your own things, and the experience I'm gaining from it is real.
Anyway, here are two pictures to give you a sneak peak about it, but be aware this is NOT final design, just early concepts that I felt like sharing (which was hard for some reason...)
The short will be aired sometimes, somewhere, I don't know when, where or how for now, but it will...hopefully. So I can show more.

Mon dernier post avec un dessin dedans date d'il y a trois mois. Et pour cause...
Ces trois derniers mois ont été intenses et le temps a filé comme en trois jours...Je viens tout juste de finir il y a quelques heures un mini-pilote pour un projet de série dévellopé pour Cartoon Network. J'en ai encore les yeux qui piquent de fatigue et j'attaque maintenant la phase étrange du baby blues et ne sais pas trop quoi penser, quoi dire...je suis dans le gaze et j'ai besoin de redescendre apres le sprint.
Je ne peux en montrer que quelques images sans savoir lesquelles choisir ou si j'en ai envie, donc rien pour l'instant. Je ne sais pas quand il sera diffusé, mais il le sera. A suivre...
Un grand merci du fond du coeur à ceux qui m'ont aidé sans compter, je ferai les présentations plus tard.
Je débranche pour deux semaines.

My last post with a proper drawing was about three months ago.
And these last three month were pretty intense, and it seemed they lasted three only days.I just finished few hours ago a mini-pilot for a TV series project I develloped for Cartoon Network.
My eyes are still itchy and blured from the lack of sleep and I'm starting to feel the strange post effect you experience after the rush...I don't what to think nor to say...
I can only show one or two pictures of it but I don't know what to choose and if I really want to show anything before the short itself, so nothing now. It will be shown hopefully soon, but I don't know when for now, so stay tunned.
I want to deeply thank the people who helped me on the project who did an incredible job, I'll introduce them later.
I'm disconnecting for two weeks now.

Courte pause en Ardèche chez les amis les Cailloux. Cette année, pas de gravure mais un petit boulot en rapport quand même...
L'ami Didier et l'ami Jojo seront au festival des arts de rue de Chalon ces prochain jours et proposeront un atelier d'impression ambulant d'affiches sauvages. Ils ont donc construit un petit chariot contenant une presse à épreuve et trois casses de caractères en bois.
Ils m'ont demandé de le décorer moyennant quelques canons de Pastis(ou comment me motiver à bosser en vacances...) Voilà le résultat. Si vous allez au festoche et que vous les croisez, vous pouver aller leur soutirer un coup de rhum (ils en cacheront une bouteille dans le double fond). Et ils risquent bien d'être à poil sous les tabliers! Pour moi, les vacances sont déjà finies, au boulot!_______________________________________________

This year, no etching nor printing, but a small job still related to it. My friends Didier and Jojo will go to a famous "performing arts street festival" in Chalon (France) these next days, and they will lead a poster printing workshop in the street. So they build a small carriage to carry some wood letters and a small press, and they asked me to decorate it.Here is the result...And my holidays are over, back to work...

Ca y est, le Sketchtravel est passé entre nos mains à Véro et à moi. On s'est bien amusé. Avant de pouvoir découvrir notre réalisation (et le work in progress video), il faudra vous contenter de quelques photos...On ramène le carnet à Paris dès demain, puis il repartira aux USA dans les jours à venir.

Beaucoup de boulot au boulot, un projet en développement, un autre en cours, de l'anim, de la 3D, du compositing...miam!
Et à défaut de pouvoir en révéler quoi que ce soit à votre curiosité, je vous expose les larcins de ma vie parallèle.
Je viens de finir d'illustrer un roman jeunesse, Wilma Tenderfoot and the case of the Frozen Hearts de Emma Kennedy, aux éditions Macmillan. Cinq tomes sont prévus au pays de la Reine.
Je me frotte au marché anglais, aux relations avec un agent, une manière différente de procéder et surtout à jongler avec un emploi du temps de ministre...
Je suis assez mitigé du résultat...la balance entre désir et répondre à une commande/attente est toujours délicate...
En voici la couverture, la maquette étant de la DA de l'éditeur (je précise). Et détail amusant, en vrai les objets dans les cases sont noirs et apparaissent sous la chaleur du doigt... ____________________________________________________

A lot of work at work, a project in development, an other one in progress, animation, 3D, compositing...yum!
But to excuse me of not revealing anything of it, I'm showing you the result of my parallel life.
I just finished to illustrate a kids novel, Wilma Tenderfoot and the case of the Frozen Hearts by Emma Kennedy, published by Macmillan. Five books are already planned in the Queen's land.
I'm experiencing a pretty tight schedule, believe me!
So, here's the cover, the art director at Macmillan did the layout of it. Funny details, the objects in the boxes are black and you reveal them by touching them, heat sensitive ink!

Voilà longtemps que je voulais poster cette vieillerie de 2005 pour laquelle j'ai une affection particulière...Il sagit de la version animée du decors posté il y a belle lurette ici. C'était donc un exercice d'effets spéciaux co-realisé avec mon poto Fabulon aux gobelins. On s'était bien amusés à enregistrer passer le RER dans la gare d'à côté!

J'ai eu l'immense honneur d'aller visiter maître Quentin Blake dans son studio, pour récupérer le Sketchtravel. Les mots manquent pour décrire cette experience unique. La frustration après coup de ne pas profiter plus de ce genre de moment unique, le sentiment de petitesse ressenti sous la bibliothèque recouvrant le mur, et remplie de plus de 340 livres.
Bref, je n'en menais pas large et c'est ce genre de rencontre qui marque pour longtemps et font reflechir beaucoup!
Catherine s'est occupé de l'interview et Ben, des photos et du film. Je salue au passage leur implication dans le projet.

I had the huge honnor to meet master Quentin Blake in his London studio, to get the Sketchtravel from him.
Words are weak to describe this very unique experience. The frustration afterwards not to take more advantage of that kind of rare moments, the feeling of beeing so small under the bookshelf packed with more than 340 books.
I was really impressed, and I will remember this for a long time, and that the kind of thing that make you think a lot about your own work.
Catherine was in charge of the interview and Ben filmed and took the pictures. They are so involved in the project.

Eh ben voilà, ce dont j'ai commencé à parler il y a quelques temps vient d'être révélé au monde! Il s'agit donc du Totoro Forest Project, un excitant projet auquel j'ai été invité à participer, avec 200 autres artistes. Il sagissait de réaliser notre propre vision de Totoro, inspirée par le film de maître Miyazaki. Les oeuvres seront exposées à Pixar (et certaines au San Fransisco Cartoon Art Museum), ou elles seront vendues aux encheres, et les bénéfices reversés au National Trust Totoro Forest Foundation, pour la protection de la forêt de Sayama, qui n'est autre que la forêt de Totoro! Forêt menacée bien sur... Ensuite, un livre sera édité avec l'ensemble des oeuvres, que vous pouvez voir sur le site officiel. Few weeks ago, I teased about a secret projet that was revealed to the world today! It's the Totoro Forest Project, an exciting project I was honored to take part of, with 200 other artists. We had to give our own vision of Totoro, inspired by the film of master Miyazaki. An exhibition and an aunction will take place in Pixar (and some of the pieces will be shown at the San Fransisco Cartoon Art Museum) and the money raised will be donated to the National Trust Totoro Forest Foundation , to protect the endangered Sayama forest, Totoro's forest... Then, a book will be published with all the pieces you can now see on the official website. Thanks to Dice Tsutsumi, Yukino Pang, Enrico Casarosa et Ronnie del Carmen who are at the origin of this generous project, and for inviting me!________________________________________________

Mixed (pencil, watercolor, ink) but then mainly digital (photoshop).
-DESCRIPTION:
This piece is partly based on the circular greenhouse you can find in Strasbourg's botanical garden (East of France).
A really beautiful greenhouse, really intimate, that I specialy love.
I love greenhouses anyway, the light and plants are usually unique, and the impression inside is magical. I like the mix of nature and artificial elements
such as the lables with scientific names, pipes, taps, garden hoses...
But in a way, it's a bit like puting nature in a box, like zoos do for animals. It's sound like the last hope for nature in case it desapears completely.
So that could really be the last shelter of the nature spirit as well.
That's what I wanted to show...It's a bit sad in a way, but it would be totally hopeless if totoro wasn't giving an acorn to the children..The hope.
I won't explain further more, Miyazaki already did it way better than me, with his masterpiece.__________________________________________

Je suis assez silencieux en ce moment, beaucoup de travail et de projets dans tous les sens, un déménagement sur les rails, un festival d'annecy et me voilà en mode sous-marin..
Donc pas de dessins pour maintenant, quelques annonces et trucs très chouettes pour remplir. Tout dabord mon compère marmouzet, qui organise avec brio fin juillet et en allemagne, le skizzenfestival (festival international du croquis, en langue courtoise) auquel je prendrai part avec le compère mr. fabulon, dans un projet commun de fresque, où l'on tentera de réaliser le plus grand croquis du monde, et ainsi qu'avec l'autre compère, mr.caillou, dans un projet commun de...ben de pastis où l'on tentera d'en trouver...___________________________________________

First of all, my pal marmouzet, organizes the skizzenfestival, a sketching festival in germany at the end of july. I'll be part of it with my other pal mr. fabulon in a common project of wall painting where we'll (try to) make the biggest sketch in the world, and with my other pal mr. caillou, in a common project of...boozing?

Ensuite, mon petit film,la soupe à l'engrais, continue sa petite vie, j'ai reçu il y a quelques semaines le deuxième prix du concours de Cold Hard Flash. Il a été sélectionné avec dix autres films parmi la diffusion de l'année et jugé par des stars très paillettes...voilà c'est rigolo. Je crois que je vais refaire des films-d'un-mois-pas-finis, moi..

Then, my little film, fertilizer soup, continues its own little life and won few weeks ago, the second price in the Cold Hard Flash competition. It was selected with ten other films among the year's selection and judged by pretty fancy professionals.

Hi there, I've been quite silent for a while over here. I've been pretty busy lately, I have a lot of work during the day, animating, and my evenings are filled with other projects that I'll talk about later. Samedi je suis allé faire quelques croquis au Zoo de Londres...c'est définitivement déprimant un zoo. En bas il y a des chevaux, croqués chez ma soeur, les premiers croquis de l'année.
Saturday I went to London Zoo to do some sketches...Zoos are definetly depressing. The horses were made to my sister's house, the first sketches of the year, I didn't do much, it was freezing!

Et puis mes copains du boulot, Chris et Dave, jouent dans un groupe "The dive". Petit croquis de leur concert dans un pub à Camden vendredi dernier.

Je reviens tout juste d'un petit voyage à Venise, voici les deux seuls croquis que j'ai pris le temps de faire des petits étalages de marchés recouverts. Le retour à Londres est assez dur...De retour, je me dis qu'on aurait du faire plus de croquis...voilà l'occasion d'y retourner!

Le clip des Chemical Brothers "Salmon dance" sur lequel j'ai travaillé quand j'étais animateur à Framestore-CFC vient de recevoir un VES award (visual effects society) dans la catégorie Animation de personnages dans un environnement live action. Bravo à toute l'équipe et surtout aux animateurs! Vous pouvez le visionner ici.
Dernière news: il a aussi remporté le prix du meilleur clip au dernier Imagina.

-I just took part in a comic happening related to Angoulême festival, we had to draw 24 pages in 24 hours, with a constraint revealed just at the beginning (This year it was: there must be a familly meeting on page 12). Une mécanique

Petite update dans mon portfolio. Des recherches faites en mars dernier sur le personnage de giant jack, pour la pochette du prochain album de dyonisos "la mécanique du coeur". J'ai été envoyé sur des pistes qui n'étaient pas les miennes sans retours précis sur ce que je proposais. La liberté que je pensais avoir s'est peu à peu restreinte, j'ai fini par laisser tomber. Avorté très tôt, donc, dommage j'étais très motivé...Vous pouvez voir une sélection de croquis en cliquant ici.
An update on my portfolio. Some researches I did last march on a character, for the cover art of the next dionysos album, "la mécanique du coeur". I thought I could be a little bit free, but I was little by little asked for things that were not personnal. I finally gave up. You can see a selection of sketches clicking here.

Depuis deux semaines, comme pour contrer ma petite passe à vide, je me suis remis avec plaisir et excitation aux croquis quotidiens. Quel plaisir, je deviens boulimique, je me dérouille, me décomplexe, peu importe si le dessin est raté (mais je les garde pour moi les ratés quand même). Je veux juste noter, observer et revenir au dessin brut, je veux apprendre. C'est grisant. A suivre...ne plus arrêter!
Since two weeks, I started sketching everyday again with great pleasure and excitement. The more I sketch, the more I want to sketch, I practise, I become less shy, I don't care if the drawing is bad. I just want to observe, to learn. To be continued...I musn't stop!

Un retour aux vacances dernières, avec une petite initiation à la mosaïque avec notre professeur, mlle Caillou. Les autres carreaux sont de Vérossignol, mr Caillou et mlle Caillou, bien sûr. Le tout décore leur salle de bain.

-Voici sorti du tiroir 2005 un petit court-métrage réalisé en un mois dans le cadre d'un exercice d'anim limitée pour une chaîne télé pour enfants. Le thème était "quand je serai grand". Certaines anims ne sont même pas finies comme je l'avais prévu. Il a été sélectionné dans huits festivals dans le monde dont Ottawa, Siggraph et Annecy 2006.
-From 2005 archives, a little short I did at school for a limited animation exercise in one month for a children TV chanel,the theme was "when I'll grow up".It was selected in eight festivals included Ottawa, Siggraph and Annecy 2006.

Je suis retombé là-dessus en rangeant un peu, alors je vous en fait profiter...
Extrait d'illustrations réalisées en novembre 2005 pour l'association/galerie "à table" a boulogne-sur-mer. Elles ont fait objet d'un repas/expo sur le theme du miroir et d'une édition en livret.
Je suis allé à la rencontre des différents protagonistes du port de pêche pour leur faire leurs portraits sur le vif (retouchés ensuite sur ordi).Expérience riche en rencontres (plus ou moins intriguées) et horaires trés matinales pour finalement découvrir ce milieu.Ah oui, et ca change un peu de faire des portraits réalistes.
